Inclusion Europe attends meeting at the Council of Europe on participation of people with disabilities in political and public life
Inclusion Europe is a Nongovernmental Organization Observer to the Committee. At the meeting in March, a representative from Inclusion Europe gave a presentation about the ADAP project (Accommodating Diversity for Active Participation in European Elections), which it launched in 2009 and aims to improve the accessibility of elections for people with intellectual disabilities. During the presentation, results of the research, as well as examples of good practices from Inclusion Europe's member organisations were presented. The CAHPAH undertakes the coordination of the Council of Europe Disability Action Plan. The CAHPAH-PPL is a smaller committee which focuses on participation in public and political life, established for a three-year period (2009-2011). The report of the CAHPAH-PPL looks at how Member States are implementing the Disability Action Plan regarding participation in public and political life.
Inclusion Europe will follow the progress of the CAHPAH-PPL and provide further input into the report and recommendations on participation of people with disabilities in public and political life. A representative from the CAHPAH-PPL will speak at the final conference of the ADAP project from 30-31 May 2011 to present the work of the committee and to enhance synergies between the work of the CAHPAH-PPL and the work of the ADAP project.
